February has a reputation for being the “gap” month – the festive season is a memory, and Spring hasn’t quite sprung. But here at the farm, February is one of our favourite times. It’s a month of snowdrops, cozy pub lunches, and getting the whole family together for February half-term.
If you’re planning a trip with three generations and a dog, here is how to make the most of February in our corner of East Yorkshire.
1 – The Snowdrop Walk at Burton Agnes Hall
Just a short drive from the cottage, the woodland at Burton Agnes Hall becomes a white carpet in February . It is a spectacular sight that appeals to everyone. The paths are generally accessible for all ages, and there is a fantastic adventure playground for the kids. Plus, their café is a treat for a post-walk scone!
2 – Rainy Day Rescue: Bridlington’s Hidden Gems
If the weather isn’t great, there is still plenty to do. Sewerby Hall and Gardens is a family favourite; even if it rains, the zoo and the house provide plenty of cover. For dog owners, many of the local cafes, including the famous Cow Shed at Fraisthorpe, offer warm, dry shelter and plenty of treats for your furry friends.
3. Ease for the Whole Family
One of the reasons families love staying with us in February is the layout. After a day exploring, the “logistics” of a holiday can be tiring. Our cottage takes the stress out of it:
- The grandparents can retreat to the quiet ground-floor bedroom without having to navigate stairs after a long walk.
- The kids had head upstairs to their own space.
- The Dog can dry off by the fire.
- The heart of the Home; Our large farmhouse kitchen table is perfect for big family breakfasts or board game marathons. It is also my favourite spot for a quiet cup of tea in the morning while the rest of the house is still fast asleep.
4 . Meeting the “Mums-to-Be”
In the stable yard, February is a month of anticipation. Our mares are getting bigger by the day as they prepare for foaling season. It’s a lovely time for guests to visit and see the horses tucked up in their winter rugs, enjoying the quiet before Spring begins.
